Municipal Court
The North Providence Municipal Court hearing room is located on the 2nd floor of the North Providence Town Hall, 2000 Smith St. The Court has jurisdiction over several motor vehicle offenses (moving violations), parking enforcement, Town Ordinance violations, animal control violations and various zoning issues.
Court is NOT held at Police headquarters. Fines cannot be paid at the Town Hall.
Court sessions are held twice a month on Monday evenings at 6PM. Proper dress is required to enter the court, i.e.; shirts, shoes etc. Cell phones and pagers are to be turned off while the court is in session. No hats.
There is a $35.00 (check or money order ONLY, no cash or credit cards) court fee that is imposed in most instances for hearings before the court. The Judge of the Municipal Court may waive this fee at their discretion.
Typical Procedure
The first court appearance is called an arraignment, and suspected offenders may either plead to the offense or request a trial. If a trial is requested, a date will be set where the offender, the police officer or other town official and any witnesses for the prosecution or defense will be present. A trial will then be held before the sitting judge of the court.

Good Driving Record
If the offender has had a clean driving record within the last three years they may plead guilty and us the good driving statute. They may or may not be charged a court fee of $35.00(check or money order ONLY, no cash or credit cards), which is the judge's dicretion. Please bring a blank check with you in the event there is a fee as we do not accept cash or credit cards.
Payment of fines
Payments can be made either in person or by mail (unless an appearance is necessary). The court will accept either a personal check or money order. Cash will not be accepted.
