NORTH PROVIDENCE POLICE DEPARTMENT
ANIMAL CONTROL DIVISION


The Animal Control Shelter is located at 900 Smithfield Road, North Providence, R.I. The Animal Control Division is staffed with three full-time animal control officers that provide care, guidance, enforcement and control of domesticated animals.

The North Providence Police Department is committed to the humane treatment of animals under its control while ensuring that the public is safe from animal threats and nuisances.

On occasions, citizens do encounter a “Target Species” on their property. A “Target Species” is a term developed by The Rhode Island Rabies Control Board as animals at high risk for incubating rabies. Those species include, but are not limited to: raccoons, foxes, skunks, bats and woodchucks. If you come in contact with any of these target species you can call the Department of Environmental Management at 222-2284.

Hours of Operation
Animal Control Officers are on duty 7 days a week from 7AM-3PM., and Tuesday through Friday until 11:00PM.

North Providence citizens can call our Animal Shelter directly at 233-1492, however, if an emergency exists you can call 911 or direct to the North Providence Police Department at 233-1433.

Licensing
All dogs and cats shall be licensed and rabies vaccinated in accordance with State Law/Town ordinance. All dog and cat licenses shall be issued from the Town Clerk’s Office, located at the North Providence Town Hall, 2000 Smith Street, North Providence, Rhode Island.
